Short interest
The number of a company's shares that investors have borrowed and sold, betting the price will fall. High short interest means many people expect a drop.
If the price rises instead, short sellers may rush to buy shares back to limit their losses, which can push the price up even faster (a short squeeze).
Also called: short sellers.
